How does the Sun Up To Sun Down Trail Race work?
The course is a 5K loop with a shared start/finish line. Participants must be ready and at the start line at the top of every hour.
Individual: Run a 5K every hour on the hour for 10 hours straight.
Two Person Team: All laps must be completed and each teammate must complete 5 loops each (if each teammate doesn’t complete 5 loops each, the team will be disqualified). Teams can determine how they want to split the 50K distance/10 loops. For example: teammates may alternate loops or one team mate may run the first 5 while the other runs the last five.
Can I run with a team?
Two-person teams can register for this event. You must register in the team category. How is the event timed?
Results will be based on chipped timing. Each loop will be timed, and participants/team results will be the total time for the 10 loops.
What are the requirements for this event?
Participants must be able to finish each 5K loop in under 55 minutes. Anyone who does not meet the time cut off each hour will not be permitted to continue, and they will be listed as a “DNF” (did not finish) in results.
All participants must supply their own headlamp and show the J&A Staff their headlamp before their last laps.
Will there be awards?
Individual Awards | Overall fastest male and female winner – Prize TBA
Team Awards | Fastest male team, female team, and co-ed team – Prize TBA
Awards are based on cumulative time.
What type of food & fuel will be provided?
A base camp will be set up at the start/finish line of the event. Within the basecamp, colas, Nuun, water, sandwiches, salted items, sweet items, energy gels, energy bars and basic first aid supplies.
The event is a self supported event with no aid stations on the 5K loop. Participants will need to carry their own hydration while they are on the course.
Where can I park?
Participants must have a season parking pass or purchase a one day $10 parking pass in the product section when registering for the race. Parking will be located next to the Base Camp area at the Boat Ramp (64th Street Entrance). Teams are highly encouraged to car pool as parking is limited.
What is allowed at base camp?
Participants are allowed to bring tents, coolers, and pets must remain on a leash.

What should I expect on the trail?
All participants are encouraged to use proper trail etiquette at this event. The trail will be open to other runners, walkers, and cyclist. When passing, please announce your arrival (ex. “on your left”) and pass on the left. Stay on the designated 5K loop at all times. Pacers are not permitted to run with you. Race bibs must be worn and visible at all times.
